Avant Garde Meets Streetwear in this Palace x Vivienne Westwood Collaboration

The late, great designer continues to make waves across every fashion community.

Story: Kylie Gorsky

Vivenne Westwood’s iconography paired with Palace’s old-school skatewear style is a duo never seen before, especially with Westwood’s collaboration spearheading Palace’s first womenswear drop.

Vivienne Westwood

Known for the iconic, classic orb symbol branded by Westwood in the late 80s (1986), she seamlessly became one of the most influential designers of the century, and her designs continue to make a lasting impact in the world of fashion. She started designing during the “hippie era” of the 1970s and later became highly influential in the 1980s and 1990s. Though Westwood passed in 2022, her widowed husband, Andreas Kronthealer, took charge of the label and stepped into the role of creative director.

Palace Streetwear

With interest deep in the skateboarding scene, Lev Tanju and Gareth Skewis, the founders of Palace, aimed to create a skatewear brand in 2009 as a side gig, not realizing how influential the brand would become just 14 years later. Baggy t-shirts, detailed boards, and other accessories were slowly being released, all branded with their iconic triangular logo. Palace’s influence grew quickly as celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Jay-Z, and other big names have been photographed in the established streetwear brand.

Though Palace has taken on collaborations with designers such as Gucci and Y-3 in the past, Westwood’s influence separates this collection among others, as it provided grounds for the first womenswear line Palace has dropped. Items in the new drop feature the classic Westwood orb logo, and the brand is selling womenswear for the first time in history with corsets, velour sweatsuits, and shoes that caters to a more female-inclusive audience.

Aside from the iconic orb logo, another inclusion of Westwood’s branding is the classic bear. The new drop features bear keychains, backpacks, and even bears printed on clothing items, and Palace co-founder Lev Tanjue dressed his dog in a corset and stuffed bear earrings as a unique promotion for the drop.
