Nike and Jaquemus Join Forces for Spring 2024 Collection
Sha’Carri Richardson, the fastest woman in the world, fronts the collaboration’s campaign.
The newest high fashion and athletic wear crossover has finally arrived, thanks to French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus.
Fashion label Jacquemus has partnered with Nike to release a new collaboration, featuring items ranging from polo sweaters with Swoosh hardware to bucket hats brandished with the sneaker brand’s iconic logo.
Two colorways of the Jacquemus x Air Humara sneakers are also part of the drop. The sneaker, modeled after designer Jacquemus’ favorite shoe, features a leather top, side Swoosh branding, and suede detailing.
The most notable piece in the collection is the Le Sac Swoosh, a shoulder bag designed in the shape of Nike’s logo. The bag is made of leather, produced in Japan, and comes in three colors: pink, beige, and black.
Fronting the campaign is American female track and field sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, who is sponsored by Nike. Richardson has built a close relationship with the brand since her sponsorship began in 2019.
The Dallas-born runner has fronted various Nike ads and is often spotted wearing the company’s gear while competing. The brand also defended Richardson when the United States Anti-Doping Agency suspended her for testing positive for marijuana usage before the 2020 Olympics.
Last week, Jacquemus teased the Nike collab with a picture of Richardson holding the Swoosh bag in an Instagram campaign. The designer encouraged his followers to guess the face of the collaboration, and many were able to recognize Richardson because of her long nails and distinctive arm tattoo of a wing.
According to Jacquemus, the company wanted to create a female-focused collab inspired by past Nike campaigns.
“For this collaboration with Nike, I wanted to create a collection that reinterprets athletic women’s sportswear in a minimal way. I have always been inspired by vintage ACG pieces and Nike campaigns from the ’90s,” Jacquemus said in a statement published on Nike’s website.
“Having this imagery in mind, we designed women’s athletic wear with sensuous details and neutral colors, along with my own interpretation of the Humara — my favorite Nike shoe. It was important for the collection to be accessible, for all bodies, and to be a natural blend of Jacquemus style and Nike performance.”
As with past Jacquemus collaborations such as Jacquemus x Swarovski, this Nike collaboration continues a trend of smart partnerships for the Paris-based designer.
If you want to get your hands on the new pieces, you need to be Olympian-type fast– a majority of the items are already selling out.
