Fuck it,
I am in love with Nate Jacobs!

This week on TikTok, users have one sentiment: “me, if you even care.”

A piece of salami. Dog ears. A Four Loko.

What do all of these things have in common? Well, not much— except for the fact that, for some inexplicable reason, TikTok users are obsessed with putting bows on them.

In the year of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Sophia Coppola’s “Priscilla”, it only feels right to end 2023 on another female-coded, pink lace-laden trend.

If you’ve been online this week, that means you’ve probably seen videos of everything under the sun (an IV bag, a man’s beard, a jar of olives) set to a mashup audio of Lana Del Ray’s “Let the Light In” and Sydney Sweeney’s infamous Euphoria Season 2 monologue, in which she exasperatedly declares: “Fuck it, I am in love with Nate Jacobs!”

In 2023, flairs and monikers of girlhood have been inescapable. Girl math. Ballet flats. Girl dinner. Coquette-core. “That girl.” This week’s trend has taken the pink wave of 2023, and flipped on its head, emphasizing its absurdity. When you slap a bow on it, anything can be a conduit for girlhood. To be a girl is to ask for reassurance, time and time again— hence the comments of, “This is me, if you even care.”

Predictably, social media managers have caught on, with every company from CAVA to Airbaltic scrambling to put a bow on it. But, as we all know, corporate TikTok accounts are where trends go to die.

You’ve asked (this is me if you even care), and we’ve answered– we do care.

You can put down the bows now. Your golden retriever looks sad.
