“A FRAME FOR EVERY FACE”

“Sunglasses became a statement accessory at the 2026 NYFW, embracing
bold shapes and personal style.”

A simple accessory can transform an entire outfit.

They are the perfect accomplice when you can’t be bothered to put on makeup, need a break from the paparazzi’s flash, or simply want to disappear behind a pair of lenses. Worn indoors or out, day or night, sunglasses can add a little mystery or conjure an entire new persona without ever revealing your eyes.

This season, New York Fashion Week took that idea and made it bigger. Much bigger.

From oversized bug-eyed frames, to sporty silhouettes and candy-colored lenses, eyewear at New York Fashion Week was anything but an afterthought. The 2026 runways and streets treated sunglasses as a statement piece of their own, bending the rules of proportion and shape to create dramatic, playful looks.

Bella Hadid proved that bigger really can be better. Stepping out in Manhattan, Hadid paired a glossy black Prada frame with ruby tinted lenses, creating a distinctly 2000 inspired look. With futuristic style, the glasses added moody tones to her cream colored daytime outfit.

For her evening look, Hadid swapped the statement black frames for another pair of dark Gucci glasses from Chloe Vintage, this time, featuring an oval silhouette accented with gold touches. The effect was polished yet emulated a retro ‘80s feel, proving that a good pair of sunglasses can carry an outfit long after the sun goes down.

Oversized frames took on a life of their own on the Tory Burch and Michael Kors runways. Both collections played with scale and color, making the accessory the dramatic finishing touch to tailored blazers and dress pants. The bold proportions added contrast to more feminine looks, with each frame bringing its own distinct character to the collection.

But off the runway, eyewear in the streets took on a niche of its own.

Away from the curated looks, New Yorkers wore sunglasses for the fun of it. Vintage glamour and sporty wraparounds appeared side-by-side with no single trend dictating what to wear.

There’s a frame for every face: some effortless, eccentric, or perfectly pulled from another decade. Some may be archival, while others are hand-me-downs from older generations or sorted through from a local thrift store.

And while trends constantly change, sunglasses at New York Fashion Week remain timeless.
